Paper clips. Whenever you need one there's never one around and when you don't they're everywhere. A bit like buses. Or taxi's.

Anyway here are some unusual uses for paper clips for when you have some.

• When your zip hoody has a broken pull tab simply thread the paperclip through the loop. Hep presto you can move the zip up and down again.
• Remember to take one or two with you if your appearing on any kind of Castaway reality TV programme. Simply twist into fish hooks. Does not garuntee you will catch anything though.
• Very topical for Ireland. Use to puncture potato skin before micro waving.
• Keep your business cards orderly in your wallet, jacket pocket etc by using a paper clip to keep them together.
